Savoie - Domaine Chevallier-Bernard
Domaine Chevallier-Bernard Savoie
This producer was recommended by Jean-Francois Quenard in Chignin. Chevallier and Bernard are the last names of the husband and wife team located in Jongieux, where the dominant grape is Altesse. The couple, now aided by their son, sustainably farm their 13 hectares of grapes planted on clay and limestone soils. We find their wines to be full of fruit and precise with their varietal flavors.
The Roussette de Savoie has fine and floral aromas, while the palate shows notes of citrus and exotic fruit. The Mondeuse has classic flavors of cranberry, pomegranate and currant, with a note of savory herbs on the finish.
The Marestel, coming from a tremendous slope overlooking the valley, was the top scoring wine in the 2018 edition of Guide Hachette. “This Marestel delivers a bouquet of great finesse, with aromas of dried pineapple and sweet almond along with some smoky notes. The palate is lively and round, offering superb flavors of exotic fruits counterbalanced by a fine bitterness. Finishes with admirable elegance and balance.
